| Level 3 Every student that is not a beginner can ask the teacher to help choose a course at the right level. Usually a student that has taken level 2, goes to level 3. All students that are not beginners, are asked to fill in a form were they evaluate their knowledge in Icelandic and inform us of what they expect from the next level. In general To be able to study Icelandic in Tungumálaskólinn, the students need a fairly good Internet connection, a dictionary, either a printed one or an on-line dictionary. In addition, there are good translation possibilities on the Internet. They need MSN and Skype-software; both are free and can be downloaded form the Internet.
We emphasize that it is important to weave studies in Icelandic with Icelandic culture and society and to make our courses as informative and interesting as possible. Our aim is to make the students fairly knowledgeable about the Icelandic society when they have taken a course in Tungumálaskólinn. Therefore, the curriculum is integrated with what is happening in the society during the course.
Students can ask questions in English, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, German and Italian. Distance Learning On level 3, the assignments relate to interests travel, news and other things that the students can choose to work with, all according to their own interest. There are short text on the history and culture in Iceland, geography and things that relate to the students and their lives in different parts of the country. The students are expected to work a great deal on their own, both with assignments from the teacher and projects they have chosen themselves. Teaching: Regarding vocabulary, progress and demands, we follow the syllabus set up for Icelandic as a Foreign Language Vocabulary: The course begins with refreshing the most common vocabulary and then adding new words with pictures and sound, but the main emphasis is put on reading texts and to work with these texts. Understanding texts. The teacher reads short texts, either from the news, from books or the Internet. After each text there is short interactive exercise. Training speech: When teaching the students to speak Icelandic, we use Skype. The students attend class live on the Internet and make a schedule for these lessons in cooperation with the students. Writing: T here will be quite a lot of written exercises. The students learn to write in steps according to a particular scheme where new moments are added as their ability to write in Icelandic grows. Dictation: The students listen to a text and write once every week. Correspondence with the teacher: By using MSN, the students communicate with the teacher. Once every week, they get a private lesson with the teacher. We try to find a time that fits the student’s schedule. Grammar: First the students refresh their knowledge from previous courses. After that we add to the grammar as we continue with the teaching material. Students that want more difficult grammar exercises or more grammar are welcome to ask for additional grammar exercises or work on exercises that exist on the entertainment site. Various exercises are used there to make the grammar studies fun and interesting. A grammar booklet is made available by Tungumálaskólinn for all our students. Entertainment: Icelandic crosswords, games were you train vocabulary and other entertainment is available in Tungumálaskólinn. We upload new material every week.

We try our utmost to intertwine study and play and our teaching material is varied and wide-ranging. -
The students can at any time see when they have attended class and how they are doing. -
The teachers use Icelandic as much as possible, but sometimes they translate into English. Certificate -
Students must do all the interactive exercises. -
They must correct all written exercises that the teacher has sent back to them. -
The oral classes on Skype are mandatory. -
The writing classes on MSN are mandatory. -
All students that have met the demands set by the school; attended class and created results, get a certificate from Tungumálaskólinn. The certificate states how many Icelandic lessons were included in the course. -
The certificate is valid for people living in Iceland that have to take the obligatory 150 lessons in Icelandic as a foreign language. -
The certificate is valid as an introductory course for those that intend to move to Iceland within one year of finishing the course. Payment -
